What is the Commonwealth Home Support Programme?

CHSP is an Australian Government initiative designed to help older Australians (65+, or 50+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) live independently at home for longer.

Unlike Support at Home packages, CHSP provides entry-level support for people with lower care needs. Services are subsidised by the government, so you pay only a small contribution based on your income.

How CHSP is Funded

CHSP services are heavily subsidised by the Australian Government. You only pay a small income-tested contribution — full pensioners pay the lowest rates, while self-funded retirees pay a slightly higher (but still subsidised) contribution. Your exact contribution is confirmed during your assessment.

How to Access CHSP

Contact My Aged Care

Call 1800 200 422 or visit myagedcare.gov.au. Tell them you'd like to access CHSP services.

Phone Assessment

My Aged Care will assess your needs over the phone. For CHSP, this is usually quick and straightforward.

Referral to GNA

Once approved, request GNA Services as your provider. You can also call us directly on 1300 133 633.

Many people start with CHSP and transition to Support at Home as needs increase.

In some cases, yes. While you can't receive the <strong>same service</strong> from both programs, you may use CHSP for certain services (like transport or gardening) while receiving Support at Home for others (like personal care). This is called a <strong>"mixed care"</strong> arrangement. We can help you navigate this.

CHSP is generally <strong>faster to access</strong> than Support at Home. After you contact My Aged Care (1800 200 422), you'll have a phone assessment. Once approved and referred to us, most people can start services within <strong>1-2 weeks</strong>. Urgent needs can sometimes be expedited.
